FALL 2025
The book talk for my debut memoir With My People was a powerful and successful gathering, drawing over 100 attendees into a space of reflection, dialogue, and celebration. Centered on themes of youth activism, civic engagement, and dispelling harmful myths about the Ferguson Uprising, the event featured five expert panelists and moving poetry performances that deepened the impact of the evening. The energy in the room was electric, and the conversations sparked were both timely and transformative. I’m deeply grateful for everyone who came out and helped make it unforgettable. What an incredible four weeks it has been working with the Children's Defense Fund and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Freedom School, preparing bright young minds for their "National Day of Social Action" centered on "Public Education as a Public Good." We dove into the world of organizing and protest, discussing important political topics and even designing powerful protest signs. I am deeply inspired by the passion of the scholars from Edwardsville, Alton, and East St. Louis, and their dedication to being agents of positive change. I am so grateful to Dr. Tandra Taylor, Dr. Cindy Reed, and their dedicated staff for making this experience truly unforgettable, and I am excited to bring similar impactful programming to other communities.
